Dear DaVinci Community:

I hope you and your family had a restful, healthy, and happy November break!

Care Package Pick Up Days December 15 OR December 16

The DaVinci team, in partnership with PTO (and support from our generous community) will be providing care packages for all students.  Pick up dates for care packages will be Tuesday, December 15, 3:30-6:30 pm and Wednesday, December 16, 8:00 am – 3:30 pm.  Families picking up Heggie’s pizzas must pick up pizzas on Tuesday, December 15, and will be able to pick up care packages at that time.  Please note: some students have curriculum items to be picked up on Monday, December 7.  If that pick-up date applies to your child, your teacher will let you know.  If not, you can pick up everything the following weekWe know we have a lot of pick up days scheduled for this month, we appreciate your flexibility as we work to provide some additional cheer for students during distance learning.

Traditions Flipgrid

As we move into the winter months, we would love to invite you to share with our DaVinci community about your family’s traditions.  This is an opportunity to celebrate our diverse community and learn about all the traditions our families celebrate.  Please make a short Flipgrid video describing one of your family’s traditions.  It can be a holiday tradition, a fun family activity, a meaningful moment you share together, a celebration of your cultural heritage, or any family tradition that is special to you.

Follow this link and use your student’s DaVinci email address or the guest password below to join the group:

Time limit for each video is 1 minute.

Transition for Learning Model

As we begin trimester two in distance learning, we are all hopeful for the day in which we will be able to return to hybrid learning, and ultimately full in-person learning. As a school, we will continue to monitor the COVID case numbers closely for our area and make decisions according to the Safe Learning Plan.  At the time in which the numbers allow us to transition back to hybrid learning, we will do our best to give students and staff two weeks notice as we did for this transition.

My very best,

Ahava

School Photos – Action Required for Distance Families

Thank you to the 50 families that submitted photos of their children for the yearbook.  There are roughly 300 more photos that need to be sent.  All students who did not get their photos taken on picture day should submit a photo to be included in the yearbook.  Please note the following instructions:

* Students must be in uniform.

* Students must be photographed inside, in front of a solid colored background.  A light colored wall is preferred over a brick or wallpapered wall.
* Students should be facing the camera straight on or angled slightly to their right.
* Cell phone photos will have sufficient resolution for submission (minimum 300 DPI) BUT Snapchat photos, or screen shots of photos will not work – original photos with no filters only.

* Photo submissions should be emailed to kori@scherlingphotography.com and should include the child’s name, teacher, and grade.

*Deadline for submission is Today Friday, December 4,

Students who did get their pictures taken already should have received a communication from Scherling Photography in the envelope that included trimester 1 grades.  If you did not receive that notice, or have misplaced it, please contact Scherling directly.

Need to Know

Free and Reduced ProgramWe Need Your Help written on a chalkboard in white chalk underlined with yellow chalk

We have seen a major decrease in families applying for free and reduced meals due to the USDA free meal program for the 20-21 school year.

Students in households that meet the free and reduced-price meal income guidelines will generate compensatory revenue for our school.  Schools must use this compensatory revenue to meet the needs of students who are behind their peers, such as remedial instruction, instructional materials including digital learning and technology, bilingual programs and additional teachers and teacher aides.

The household must complete and return the 2020-21 Application for Educational Benefits form, or complete the online form in Infinite Campus, no later than December 15, so the school can calculate eligibility and report to MDE.  This will not impact your students’ eligibility to receive free meals during the 2020-21 school year.

The school will only receive these compensatory funds if families qualify under the free and reduced price meal income guidelines; but, we encourage families to apply if you believe your income falls close to the maximum allowable income.

Support Space  DVA Mental Health; Ms. Derby, Ms. Rowe, Ms. Hathaway

Hey DaVinci Community!

We have talked about how to support your children, but this week, we want to focus on you- the adults!  We know you have been working so hard to manage everything and keep it together.  Many of you work full-time or have very full plates all while also supporting your child’s education and well-being.  Many parents are feeling quite overwhelmed and are not getting what they need in order for themselves to feel good, too. We always say, “You can’t pour from an empty cup”– if you’re not taking care of yourself, it is harder to care for your family and your work.

Want to fill your cup and take care of yourself? Below are some tips from Cincinnati Children’s on how to feel your best:

  1. Identify what sets you off

  2. Walk away from the trigger

  3. Do something that calms you down

  4. Call a friend or family member

  5. Use positive self-talk

  6. Spend quality time together

  7. Consider professional help

You can find thees tips with more detail here.

Please reach out if you have questions or concerns. If your family is faced with new or ongoing needs and challenges throughout this time, please let us know by filling out this survey and someone from our team will reach out to further assist your family!

Free Reading & Math Tutoring Available Online

scholar squad

Let’s face it. COVID-19 has made everything challenging this year, especially learning. Reading Corps and Math Corps have launched a new initiative to help! Scholar Squad offers free one-on-one, online tutoring for Minnesota students in grades PreK-8.

Visit ScholarSquad.org to request help for your child. A literacy or math coach will set up a time to learn more about your child and conduct a short screening. If the screening shows your child could use extra help to boost their skills, you’ll be matched with a tutor who will provide one-on-one practice and support.
