Dear DaVinci Academy Families:
We are excited to have completed our third week of the school year! The building is full of excitement as students and staff settle into their routines. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be in-person with our students. Thank you for all of your engagement over the course of this week as we navigated a change in our COVID-19 protocols. We are looking forward to getting started with our COVID-19 Task Force next week, to determine benchmark data for consideration by the board at the September meeting for when we will transition between a mask requirement and mask optional environment as the pandemic continues to evolve. To stay up to date on all things Covid-19 at DaVinci this year please bookmark our 21-22 site (also found on the homepage of our website): DaVinci COVID Guidance.
To find out when to test your child for COVID-19 click here: COVID-19 Testing Recommendations.
Please note: All of our community-wide and close contact COVID-19 notifications will go out through email this year.
In other exciting news, we started practices this week for our first-ever Cross-Country team and last week held try-outs for our fall play where we had over 73 students audition! The enthusiasm was so high our directors have double-cast the production. We are excited to kick-off more engagement opportunities for our students in the coming weeks!
Now that the routes have been running for a few weeks Kottke’s has worked on tweaking the stop times to more accurately reflect the times that the bus has been getting to the stops. Please note changes made to your bus stop and reach out to Holly Fischer with any questions or concerns.
As some families have experienced, there have been start of the school year snafus with bus stops, and the GPS tracking system that we have in place has not been as accurate as it should be. Kottke’s, and all other busing services in Minnesota, is experiencing a profound shortage of drivers which occasionally impacts our routes. Please recognize that DaVinci Academy and Kottke’s strive to provide a safe and efficient transportation program for our families, and we are working hard to address the challenges of this new school year. Thank you for being patient with us.
NUTRITIONAL SERVICES & RECESS
Nutritional Service Information for 21-22 School Year
The United States Department of Agriculture is allowing schools to provide meals for the 2021-22 school year through a provision of the National School Lunch Program called the Seamless Summer Option (SSO). A waiver has been issued in order to support access to nutritious meals while minimizing potential exposure to COVD-19.
Our school has chosen to use this waiver and operate the SSO which enables us to provide meals free of charge for all students. No application is required to receive this free meal benefit.
However, your child(ren) may qualify additional benefits such as reduced fees or the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) which is a federal temporary emergency nutrition benefit that is loaded onto electronic cards for families to purchase food. At public schools, your application also helps the school qualify for education funds and discounts.
To apply, complete the Application for Educational Benefits link following the instructions. You may also log into your Infinite Campus account to complete an electronic form.
We are excited to be offering Uncrustables (PB&J’s) again for a meal choice at lunch. Breakfast and Lunch will be free of charge however, if your student needs an additional milk or a milk with their meal from home their account will be charged $.50
All students will be using their 4 digit pin during breakfast and lunch services. This will help families know what their children are eating throughout the school day.

MCA scores for the 20-21 school year were released this week. Click here to review our school wide scores. At DaVinci Academy we had approximately 70% of our students take the exam. The trend for our data as well as the statewide data demonstrates the overwhelming importance of in-person learning. We will use the scores only to the extent that they are helpful in guiding our support for students during this school year, as we know the extraordinary challenges students faced during the last school year. The data also highlights how important it is this school year for us to minimize out of classroom time as much as possible. Individual MCA results will be mailed to families early next week. Should you have any questions regarding your child’s scores, please contact Terry Moffatt.

We hope your school year is off to a great start! There are lots of new faces this year within our DaVinci Community, and we want to introduce our newest team member, Grades 5-8 Counselor, Brittany Finley, aka “Ms. B”. Brittany earned her undergraduate degree at Lindenwood University in St. Louis, MO, where she majored in Psychology and minored in Sports Management. She also received a D1 Basketball scholarship to play at Lindenwood. Ms. B received her Masters degree from Adler Graduate School in Minnetonka, MN. She has a son named Akeem who attends DaVinci Academy as a Kindergartener and has a 7-month old puppy named “Blue”. In her free time she enjoys playing & coaching basketball, spending quality time with her family and cooking. As a school counselor, her philosophy approach is Adlerian and has a collectivistic-collaboration approach with students.
We are so excited to have Ms. B join our Mental Health Team! For those of you who may be new and/or have not met our returning team, Phoenix Hathaway and Courtney Rowe, we wanted to introduce ourselves as well!
Phoenix Hathaway “Ms. Hathaway” is the K-4 Counselor. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from St. Cloud State University, with emphasis in Community Psychology and Early Childhood Education. She went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in Counseling, with emphasis in School Counseling, from the University of New Mexico- Albuquerque. It is her passion to work with kids and families, to strengthen relationships and create a sense of belonging and community.

She has served as a Social Worker in a variety of settings and as a School Social Worker in a Minneapolis Charter School prior to joining the DaVinci team 4 years ago. Ms. Rowe is thrilled to continue being a part of the DaVinci family and to be a strong advocate for our students and families. Her goal is to help all students achieve success socially, emotionally and academically. In her free time, Ms. Rowe likes to stay active, travel as much as possible and spend quality time wedding planning with her fiancé!
Our Mental Health Team together serves all students with their emotional and mental health needs and wellbeing. We provide individual and small group counseling, classroom lessons, respond to crisis situations and provide community resource referrals when needed. We do not provide traditional therapy, but employ therapeutic tools and refer families to community agencies for those who may benefit from more intensive services.
If you need further support, information or would like to discuss any questions or concerns with us, please feel free to contact us at any time! If your family is faced with new or ongoing needs and challenges, please let us know by filling out this survey and someone from our team will reach out to further assist your family!

We are currently experiencing difficulty with the Bloomz communication system. We are actively working with Bloomz to fix this problem and apologize for the disruption that this has caused. Families should still be receiving messages from teachers through Bloomz though. If you have not been receiving messages, you might want to check your notification settings as it is possible to customize them and some families have found that their emails for notifications have been turned off.
