Notes from Nurse Julie
COVID cases in the school have been increasing. The symptoms are similar to cold and allergy symptoms (sore throat, runny/stuffy nose, and low-grade fevers. We still have BinaxNOW rapid tests available for students to be tested. Please continue to assess your child each day for symptoms and test them if you are at all uncertain. In addition, if your child has a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea, they will need to be free of these symptoms for at least 24 hours without the use of medications before returning to school. Let’s finish the year strong!
If your student has borrowed clothing from the nurse’s office, please wash what was borrowed and return so they are available for future use to other students in need.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!
With the warmer temperatures, please send a water bottle to school each day with your student and encourage them to drink plenty of water to avoid the unpleasant effects of dehydration such as headaches, nausea, and passing out.
If your child tests positive, please fill out the COVID Reporting Form and Nurse Julie will get back to you as soon as she can with the details of your student’s return to school.
Fall 2022 Athletics Update
DaVinci Academy added Cross Country and Volleyball to our sports offerings this school year. We are already planning the season for both sports, and we wanted to provide information for those families that may be interested.
Cross Country is offered to our middle school students. Practices will begin the week of August 15. Families will have a chance to sign up to participate starting in August. Our practices are after school two days a week, and we run in 5-6 meets per year. We will have more information coming out as we get closer to the start of the school year. If your child is interested, we encourage students to stay active with other sports over the summer or run one to two miles three times a week to start building a fitness base.
Volleyball is offered to students in grades 3-8. We do this in partnership with Centennial Community Education. The third grade students have the opportunity to participate in an “Intro to Skills and Games” program so that they can develop the skills needed to be successful in a league. Students from DaVinci, Mounds View, and Centennial schools are mixed together on Thursdays from 6-8 pm. You can find out more information and register at this site.
Students in grades 4-8 will begin practice at DaVinci the week of September 20. DaVinci students practice at our school two times per week for the first two weeks and then one time per week through the season. Practices are held in our school gym based on the coaches availability for scheduling, and games are played on Monday evenings at Centennial Middle School. The 4th/5th grade students are placed on teams together, and our middle school students are placed on teams together. The number of teams is determined by the number of players from our school. Emphasis is placed upon learning the game and developing skills, and the season ends November 7. You may register for the grades 4-8 program here. If you are interested in coaching you may indicate so on the registration form.
If you have any questions about DaVinci Athletics please contact Mr. Shields email@example.com.
