NEED TO KNOW

Parent Teacher Conferences

We will be holding parent/teacher conferences on Monday, October 14 from 12:00-8:00 pm and Tuesday, October 15 from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. There is no school for students those days. Here is what you need to know:

Teachers in grades K-5 have posted their conference schedule on Bloomz. They will be 15 minute conferences with a 5 minute break in between.

Teachers in grades 6-8 and specialist teachers will be holding drop in conferences. For specialist teachers, you can come in any time on either day.  For middle school teachers, you will want to avoid the hours of 5:00-6:00 pm on Monday and 12:00-1:00 pm on Tuesday. Those hours are reserved for teacher requested, group conferences.  If teachers would like to meet with you specifically, Stephanie Severson will send out an invite.

If you have any questions about conferences you can contact your child’s teacher.

2020-21 Enrollment is Now Open

We are now accepting applications for the 2020-21 school year for new students who would like to attend DaVinci Academy in grades Kindergarten through 8. To complete an application for the next school year click here.  Sign up through our online enrollment system and then complete and submit the application.
All new students who are interested and not currently enrolled at DaVinci Academy, including siblings, must complete an application. Applications are due by January 31, to be included in the enrollment lottery on Monday, February 10.
Our next Information Session for prospective families is Thursday, November 14, at 6:00 pm.  Information Sessions are for those who may be interested in attending DaVinci Academy.  Please feel free to share this information with your family or friends.

cartoon cold weather clothingOutside Attire

At this time of year, the temperature outside can really fluctuate.  See the list below for clothing recommendations.  If there is snow on the playground or field, regardless of whether students would like to play in it, they need to wear snow pants and winter boots.  If they do not have snow pants and winter boots, they will still go outside but will need to stay on the sidewalk and blacktop.
Students will go outside for recess every day, as long as the temperature is 0 degrees or above and the windchill is -10 degrees or above.
  • 60 degrees or higher – short/long sleeve shirts
  • 46 to 59 degrees – light jacket/hooded sweatshirts
  • 45 degrees or lower – winter coat, hats and gloves
  • Snow pants and boots required when there is snow

Author Visit

Lovely War book cover
Lovely War

DaVinci Academy has been lucky to work with two independent bookstores that help bring authors into our school.  This has been offered to us at no cost and we are thrilled to announce that DaVinci Academy is once again hosting authors.

The author visit on Tuesday, October 8, with Julie Berry is for the middle school students. “Julie Berry [is] a modern master of historical fiction for young reader… Berry’s superb research and attention to detail are perfectly suited to the layers of this story of love in wartime… [a] romantic yet unflinching look at teenagers coming of age during World War I.” – Bookpage, starred review

DaVinci Academy supports these amazing author visits by the purchase of books.  Order forms that were sent home last week are due Tuesday.

SEAC

It is time for our first SEAC meeting of the year. SEAC (pronounced seek) is an acronym for Special Education Advisory Council, which is a group that provides input on special education issues to its local school district. Its purpose is to advise and advocate, not to decide policy. Parents of students on IEPs or students going through the evaluation process are welcome to attend.
DaVinci Academy will hold its first SEAC meeting of the 2019-2020 school year on Tuesday, October 29, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The discussion topic is “The importance of the arts for students with disabilities.”
Light refreshments will be served. If you are interested in attending or have any questions, please contact your child’s case manager.

DaVinci Basketball Apparel

Show your school spirit and order your DaVinci apparel today! Easy online ordering. Online store closes Tuesday, October 22 at 11:59 pm.  We have a lot of new items this year. Check out some options below.

The Book Fair is Almost Here!

Our Sale days will be Monday, October 14, from 12:00 pm-8:00 pm and Tuesday, October 15, 8:00-4:00 pm during conferences.
Books purchased at the fair will help the library to purchase new books as well as replace books that have seen better days.  We will also have a Teacher Wish List board.  Show love to our wonderful teachers and purchase a requested book for their classroom.
Volunteers are needed.  Please make sure you have had your back ground check done first.

School Photo Schedule

  • October 25: Make-up Picture day, 7th and 8th grade students who were away on Environmental Learning Trips and anyone else who was not here for picture day.
  • November 21: Picture Re-Take day for all students wanting a retake done.

Uniforms must be worn.

We will not be offering non-uniform photos during the school day this year as we have in the past.  Valuable educational time was spent moving all students through the photographer’s line and the benefit to the school was limited.   However, non-uniform photos through LifeTouch will be offered to families on the Spring Conference Day scheduled on April 9.  If you would like to take advantage of that opportunity, you can bring your child to the school that day for pictures.

Safe Driving Reminder

It is dangerous to make a U turn on Jefferson after leaving our parking lot and there are so many people who do it every day. We know that this has become the new option because you have been asked not to turn around in people’s driveways – but it is not safe.   If you must get north on Jefferson after taking a right out of the parking lot please try taking the SECOND left on 134th Ave NE then driving around and back to Jefferson.   Increased traffic in the neighborhoods surrounding a school is a given; but, it should be safe.   Please make safe driving decisions so that we can be good neighbors.

Family Numbers at Pick Up – You Need Them

Increasingly there are families in the pick up line who do not have a family number posted on the dash. Yelling your number out the window to the staff members does not ensure that our safety protocols are being followed.  Beginning next week, cars without a number posted will need to park and enter the school to receive a replacement number.  Contact the office if you need a new number sent home with your child.

Additionally, parents are encouraged to download the Silent Dismissal app and use it during the winter months.   Teacher phones and hands often freeze up out there and families who are dismissing from cars increase the likelihood that their number will be received into the system.  Contact the office in order to activate the app on your phone and you will make a teacher’s day.

NICE TO KNOW

Thank You!!

On behalf of the Color Run Committee, I want to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the families who participated and/or volunteered in the Third Annual DaVinci Color Run. Your efforts, energy and dedication to our school will have a tremendous impact on our students.

What a gift it was to gather here on our beautiful school grounds, meet new faces and connect with other caring individuals who recognize the importance these community-building events. We are so fortunate to have this incredible DaVinci community made up of families like yours!

Thank you all and see you again next year!

ONGOING

Lost and Found

Due to the LARGE quantity of winter items that are routinely left lying around the building and grounds when the weather gets colder, we will be donating lost and found items at the end of every month. So, remember to label everything and check the lost and found often.   It is now located in the Mezzanine outside the library.  Items not claimed during conference and book fair week will be donated to make room for the certain influx of cold weather gear.

Tardiness

After 8:00 a.m., parents must sign students in at the office before students are allowed to go to class. Tardiness is disruptive to the educational process and is inconsiderate to both teachers and other students; therefore, it is imperative that students are punctual. Please make sure that your child(ren) arrive into their classroom on time.

Students are expected to attend school for the entire school day, 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Students arriving late, leaving for any part of the day, or leaving before 3:00 p.m. need to report to the school office and must have a parent/guardian sign them in or out.

A student is tardy if he/she is not in their classroom by 8:00 a.m. Three or more “tardies” in any calendar month will result in a conference with an administrator.

Attendance Line: 763-252-6130

Parents should call the attendance line at 763-252-6130 before 9:00 a.m. of the day a student will be absent. This phone number is available 24 hours a day to leave a message. Please leave the following information on the recording:

  • The date your student will be absent
  • The first and last name of your student
  • The reason for the absence
  • The name of the parent/guardian who is calling

If you know your child(ren) will be gone more than 3 consecutive days, you will need to fill out an extended absence form four to six weeks in advance. Please send the Extended Absence Form to Ms. Moffatt.

Media Release-Opt Out Option

We no longer require families to do the Back to School Registration each year. However, if you do NOT give your permission for your child’s image to be used in the different media, both internally and externally, you will need to complete the Media Release form to opt out. This includes, but is not limited to, articles and photographs in a school newsletter, video of a student program shown in school or published to families via an online program, a news story by local media, or something on our web site. Click here for the Media Release Form.
