NEED TO KNOW
Dear DaVinci Academy Families:
Happy New Year! Welcome back for our second half of the 2019-2020 school year. We hope you had a rejuvenating break. We are excited to jump back into learning and growing with our young people. It has been such a pleasure to know them and you over the last few months. I have received such a warm welcome by the DaVinci Academy community and am in awe daily of the joy, learning, growth, and passion that is characteristic of our unique school environment. Just a few things I’ve enjoyed in our first year together thus far:
- The pursuit of academic excellence across grade levels by our students
- Rigorous engaging instruction by our dedicated teachers and staff
- Extraordinarily positive relationships between our students and staff
- Experiential learning opportunities including Middle School Environmental Learning Trips to Wolf Ridge, Eagle Bluff, and the Audubon Center
- Multiple in and out of school student showcases and performances
- Dance Residency with Michael Jones (wow, can our DaVinci students dance!)
- Excellence on the basketball court
I look forward to sharing many more highlights as we continue throughout the year!
One of our initiatives this year is to ensure that we have as many of our students in attendance every day as possible. We know how impactful attendance is on learning and growth for students. We know this is tricky as we are in the midst of flu season but knowing that whenever students are able to be in attendance it’s important to our entire school community that they’re here. You should have received a letter and an infographic over break with your current attendance record to date. All families received this letter to assist you with a mid-year check-in of how your child is doing this year with attendance, you can also check this at your convenience through Infinite Campus. Studies show that awareness of attendance status makes a significant difference in attendance outcomes. So far this year we are doing great as a community with an average daily attendance rate of 97%, keep up the great work! If you’re struggling with attendance on an individual level please reach out to our staff for support.
I look forward to seeing you in 2020!

As parents/guardians our job is to prepare our children to be productive citizens of the world. Helping our children develop perseverance and grit is an important step in this preparation. The Love and Logic Institute sent out this infographic that I’d like to share with you as a resource to help you in helping your child develop grit.
