Character Development at DaVinci Academy

We have four “School Pillars” at DaVinci Academy, and I would like to share some information about the Character Development pillar. As we consider character development in our school we believe emphasizing positive student behavior builds self-esteem and inspires confidence in our students. We use a model, Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS), that emphasizes good behavior in students. Students receive SPARK tickets from teachers and staff to reinforce positive behaviors. Students also receive positive referrals from teachers that are then presented to the student and sent home for the family to keep.

Each month we have a focused topic of character development teachers and staff introduce and model to students both in and out of class. In September our focus has been on Responsibility and in October we will focus on Kindness. As parents you can join us in helping students understand these ideas and how we live out these traits in our everyday lives. At our monthly assembly we will learn more about positive character traits as well as recognize students that have gone above and beyond to demonstrate these character traits while at school. We have created the DaVinci Character Quality Award to recognize these students. The DaVinci Character Quality Award replaces the former Student of the Month Award from previous years. We are excited that our school growth has provided new opportunities, and the DaVinci Character Quality Award allows us to recognize more students for the positive influence their character is showing in and out of the classroom. Teachers will nominate students for this award.

Our great hope at DaVinci Academy is that we can assist parents and the community in raising children to be confident, successful adults. This partnership means we will provide students enhanced learning experiences, differentiated instruction, as well as character development to help them in this growth.

Please contact Jack Shields, Dean of Students, if you have any questions.

Birthday TreatsNo sweets for snacks

Sweets are not allowed as birthday treats. Consider alternatives such as donating a book to your classroom, bringing in bookmarks for classmates, coming to read to the class, or joining your child for lunch.

If you’re considering a healthy snack, please contact your child’s teacher regarding food allergies in the classroom.

Parent-Teacher ConferencesParent Teacher conferences

Conferences will be Monday, October 15 from 12:00-8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, October 16 from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Kindergarten – 5th grade families will be able to sign up for a 15 minute conference time via Bloomz.
Middle School teachers will host drop-in conferences from Monday, 12:00-7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., and will be contacting parents directly to schedule group conferences.

 Mark Your Calendars!Book Fair

(Rachel Brown)
The Book Fair will be here in a flutter of a fairy’s wings! It will be open during conferences on Monday, October 15 from 12:00-8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, October 16 from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

There will be a very special offer this year.  Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Meltdown will be available for pre-order for $8.99 plus tax with free shipping to the school. The book will be delivered to your child’s classroom.
The Book Fair is an important fundraiser for DaVinci’s Library, allowing us to update books for our students. There is nothing more wonderful than when a student asks for a book, and I can say “YES we have it”!
Teachers have wish lists for their classrooms as well. There will be a “wish table” set up for children to use magic wands and grant a wish for their classroom by purchasing a book.

Outdoor Attire

At this time of year, the temperature outside can really fluctuate making dressing appropriately for recess challenging.  Please check the weather before sending your child(ren) to school.
  • 60 degrees or higher – short/long sleeve shirts
  • 46 to 59 degrees – light jacket/hooded sweatshirts
  • 45 degrees or lower – winter coat, hats and gloves
  • Snow pants and boots required when there is snow
