NEED TO KNOW

Report Card Update-We’re Going Paperless!

The report card you receive in March, at the end of Trimester 2, will be the last report card to be mailed.  We currently give parents the opportunity to read mailed paper grades and view grades through the parent portal on Infinite Campus.  Trimester 3 grades will only be able to be accessed online. Parents will need to log in to the parent portal > select a student > then”Grades” on the menu on the left side of the screen.

If you have not set up your parent portal account, please call the office to receive your activation key.

January Music Concerts

Dear DaVinci Academy Families,

Our 1st and 2nd grade winter music concerts are coming up!  We are excited to share our musical talent and knowledge with you.  Please mark your calendar for the following concert(s):

1st Grade-Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 5:30 pm

  • Meet in classroom at 5:10 pm

2nd Grade-Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 6:45 pm

  • Meet in classroom at 6:25 pm

It is important that all students meet in their classrooms 20 minutes before the concert to line up and get ready.  Concerts will begin promptly at 5:30 pm and 6:45 pm.

Concert attire is nice dress clothing (any color) and dress shoes in which your student can walk and stand comfortably.  All concerts take place in the Performing Arts Center.

See you the evening of the concert!

Mrs. Ashley Fohrman (afohrman@davincicharterschool.org)

Mr. Ben Hanson (bjhanson@davincicharterschool.org)

Overdue Library Books

Overdue library book notices will now be sent via email vs. a paper notice, as paper notices have not been very successful.  Students with over due books have been notified by paper notices and verbal reminders. In the email will be a picture of the book cover to help parents identify the missing book. If you have any concerns or think the book has been returned, please reach out to me.  Sometimes books get left in classrooms or the library gnome sneaks it back on the shelf.

I appreciate all of your help in getting books returned.

Thank you, Rachel Brown, DaVinci Librarian

NICE TO KNOW

Battle of the Books

The Battle of the Books Competition Round 1, will take place on Thursday, January 10, at 3:15 p.m. in the gym.  Parents are welcome to attend.

Each year our students in grades 3-5 can sign up to compete in Battle of the Books. This consists of reading from a list of 12 books as a team and preparing for the “battle”.  The Battle consists of questions about the books and the teams have a limited amount of time to answer each question.  This year we have 12 teams competing!  Our DVA teams will compete against each other on Thursday, January 10. The top 4 teams will then move on to Round 2.  This round will be from another list of books and the competition will be held in April.  The championship team from DaVinci Academy will then move on to compete against other Friends of Education schools in May.

Ski Club

It’s not too late to sign up!

Students in grades 6-8 are invited to participate in Ski Club starting in January.   Fifth grade students may join as well with the participation of a parent.   Trollhaugen will be offering free lessons for the first 3 Fridays and students who sign up for all 8 nights will get a Friday pass to be used on any Friday whether we have school or not.  Open the attachment to find out more.

Sign up here.

Lost & Found-It’s time for parents to look through the mix

We see kids diligently looking for lost items every day, but nothing seems to be getting claimed as the collections has now mushroomed to 8 additional bins.   If your child is missing anything please take some time to come in to the school and go through the collection yourself.  Each grade K-5 also has lost and found bins in their pods, so be sure to check there as well.  We may need to empty the lost and found monthly instead of by the trimester if we continue to collect this many items.  Thank you for your help.

Our next Information Session for prospective families is Thursday, January 24, at 6:00 p.m. Information Sessions are for those who may be interested in attending DaVinci Academy.
Please feel free to share this information with your family or friends.

Ever Wonder if your Silent Dismissal Number was Entered in to the System at the End of the Day?

The teachers who assist your children at the end of the day in car line would be greatly assisted if everyone who picked children up would use the Silent Dismissal app.   We often have trouble with phones freezing as teachers are entering numbers on cold days and parents can easily dismiss their children from the warmth of the car using the app.  So, if you are able, please contact the office to get set up with the Silent Dismissal app.  Thank you!

Sponsor a Teacher

School is back in session and most of us are probably thinking how thrilled we are to get back into our “normal routines.” A big part of that normal routine is dependent on our AMAZING teachers and staff who do a fantastic job helping our kiddos learn, grow and explore everyday! DaVinci Academy has the BEST teachers & staff members – yes, we are absolutely bragging about them right now! 🙂
The Annual Holiday Party for our teachers & staff members is coming up. The PTO has pledged to contribute funds toward the event and would be honored if you would help too!
Please consider Sponsoring a Teacher for the event. A donation of $20 pays for one teacher or staff member plus their guest. Checks (made out to DaVinci PTO) may be sent to school with your student in an envelope marked “Sponsor a Teacher” through next Thursday, January 10th.
Thank you!

PTO Meeting

Join us for our January meeting on Thursday, January 10, at 6:00 p.m. in the mezzanine.
